Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast hosting 7th annual Edible Book Festival

Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast is hosting its seventh annual Edible Book Festival from noon to 2 p.m. April 1 at the college’s Student Life Center on the North Campus (4900 St. Joe Road).

The event localizes the International Edible Book Festival, which is an annual event usually scheduled on or around April 1. It is also known as Edible Book Day. This global event has been celebrated since 2000 in various parts of the world including Australia, Brazil, India, Japan and Hong Kong. The creations are photographed at each locale, with the photographs then submitted to www.books2eat.com. The creations are then consumed.

The Edible Book Festival invites book and food lovers to create, display and taste “edible books”—dishes based on a book or a pun from a book title. Students in the Advanced Decorating and Candies class, taught by Baking Arts program chef Cheryl Hitzemann, are creating edible books as their final projects. Others in the Ivy Tech–Northeast community were encouraged to participate as well. The Ivy Tech Library staff is anticipating 28 edible book entries this year from 32 edible book artists, who were required to share the theme of their entry in advance.

The event is free and open to the public.
